Up With Pup! - Level 1 (Puppy)
Puppies under 5 months can enroll in puppy class. All methods are force- and punishment-free so its never too early to start training. We start puppies as young as 8 weeks old with excellent results! The main focus of Flying Dog classes is teaching good manners. Behaviour problem prevention is also addressed and puppies are given time to socialize.
Manners and Life Skills: Flying Dog puppy classes focuses more on creating good habits and behaviours and less on formal obedience, though it will be included. The class will give your puppy a foundation for learning and provide them with knowledge of basic commands and skills to be a confident and well-mannered puppy. Some of the things you and your puppy will learn are:
- To come when called no matter what
- Settling down on command
- Sit politely for greeting
- Walk nicely on the leash without pulling
- How to get and hold the puppy's attention with eye contact
- To stay still on command
- Basic positions 'sit,' 'down,' and 'stand'
Solve Behaviour Problems (hopefully before they start): We will work on fixing behaviour problems like jumping up, chewing, barking, etc. Some exercises will be practiced in class, others will be discussed in class and practiced at home.
Socialization: Puppies are not born with the skills to interact properly with each other; they learn by playing with other dogs. Isolating your puppy from other dogs is one of the worst things you can do. Puppies spend a portion of the class playing and interacting with each other. By playing they learn social skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
