Group Classes

"Thanks for a great class - Daisy and I progressed a lot and now I have to tools to keep working with her...I love dog training thanks to your fun, practical and clear instructions. Thank you!" - Therese & Daisy

The goal of the Flying Dog group class is to learn while having fun. They are great for meeting new friends, both human and canine.

Class is also a place where you and your dog come to put the rest of your lives on hold and work only with each other.

Participating in classes strengthens the bond between dog and owner and provides motivation to learn and goals to strive for.

All classes are taught with touch-free, positive reinforcement techniques using the clicker. See Training Methods for more information.

All classes are one hour per week, and include a graduation test and certificate upon passing. The following is a list of classes we're currently offering:

Small Class Sizes

Group obedience classes at Flying Dog are kept small enough to make sure everyone gets individual attention, but large enough for dogs and handlers to benefit from interaction, group exercises, and support.

Class size ranges from 3 to 9 dogs depending on the level of the class.

The Information Class

The first class is an information session for human family members only. Dogs and puppies do not attend the first class. Although you will not have your dog with you, the information night is one of the most important and beneficial classes. During the information class we discuss what will go on in the following classes and how to prepare yourself for training. We will discuss all the training tools we will use and go into detail about how we will train the dogs. If you understand the theories and concepts behind positive reinforcement and clicker training it will be easier for you to become a skilled trainer. You will also receive information on what you will need to bring to class: the correct collar and leash, food rewards etc.

You will learn about basic dog behaviour and communication skills to make training easier on both you and your dog and talk about common misconceptions regarding how dogs think and feel. Common behaviour problems and puppy issues will be discussed such as housetraining and nipping. Most importantly you will have the chance to ask questions about any dog-related issue you are having from separation distress to digging to what to feed your dog.

The first class is one hour full of very important information that should not be missed!
